D.L. Yancey II is a creative writer and nuclear engineer who uses artistic expression to advocate Diversity and Inclusion. After a short stint in professional football in 2008 he began a career in engineering and music. Over the course of his engineering career, he has been involved in research of galactic nuclear storms (NASA), decommissioning technologies (ORAU), and design of the first new nuclear reactor authorized to operate this century. Musically he has recorded with Grammy award-winning record producer Lex Lucazi, shared stages with award-winning artists such as Waterloo Revival and Wess Morgan, and he’s also a winner of T.I.’s Exposure Open Mic showcase.
He’s made several live appearances on Chattanooga’s local television network programs such as WRCB’s “3 Plus You” morning tv segment and Soundcorp’s “Noontunes” summer music concert series. In addition, he occasionally participates in The Southern Collective Experience’s “Dante’s Old South” nationally broadcasted NPR radio show, as a featured songwriter. With the Southern Collective, D.L. has also been featured in their internationally acclaimed Blue Mountain Review Magazine as an artist, journalist, and poet.
In 2013, D.L. Yancey became a qualified facilitator of Diversity and Inclusion training, after leading the efforts of getting 800 employees trained at a TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) nuclear facility. Since then he has facilitated panel discussions around social issues in the urban communities and has functioned as the keynote speaker/presenter around leadership. In 2014, D.L. began a youth education program titled “Math Is Art” where he uses modern technology centered around the arts to help conceptualize math. In 2017 his program was highlighted in the City of Chattanooga’s “Times free Press” newspaper. D.L.’s recently released single “Mr.Soul”, was featured in the TVA’s commercial series titled “Power By The People” in which Yancey’s family, as well as his Engineering and Music professions, were highlighted. D.L.’s single “Mr. Soul” is the leading single from his upcoming album “Life Is Love”. This debut album is classified as “jazzy soul music” which cultivates the mind of all ages. For D.L., “music is a ministry” and this album reflects how life is full of love if we take time to see it. “Life Is Love” will be released June of 2018.
